The originator of the Overpack Drum

Packaging Specialties, Inc. was founded by Joseph Dunneback, Jr. in January of 1959. Joe started his business in a small garage modifying steel drums with customized ports and fixtures for resale. As his success and customer base grew, Packaging Specialties moved to a larger facility on Richmond Avenue in Cleveland’s Slavic Village neighborhood. Over time, PSI added to its product mix and saw steady expansion in customers and markets served. In the early 1960’s Packaging Specialties developed the Overpack Drum and provided both Salvage and Overpack Drums to help clean up the Rocky Flats Nuclear Plant. The reputation of proven quality and reliability of Packaging Specialties Drums spread and the business flourished.

Protecting What Matters Since 1959

After seeing his business grow and prosper over the years, Joe decided to retire in 1983 and sold the business to Robert Syme, a long-time colleague, and friend who had represented Packaging Specialties as an independent manufacturer’s representative and had been an integral part of sales growth and new product development for Packaging Specialties. Bob continues to lead PSI with his vision of high quality, state of the art technology and engineering, cost-effective manufacturing, commitment to schedule and strong customer relations.

In 1990 Packaging Specialties moved to its current location on Lake Road, in the southwest Cleveland suburb of Medina, Ohio. A former newspaper vending machine factory, the 56,000 sq. ft. building came with additional metal bending equipment, a 5-stage washer, and access to a growing skilled labor market. Our talented group of local employees ensures that our customers can have the peace of mind knowing that their PSI packaging meets the highest quality standards and will protect their products and cargo under the most arduous conditions.
